官方表示，《模拟火车2014》将带给热爱火车的玩家所爱的一切，包括速度感、进化的画面、多样化的车种、真实世界的行驶路线以及具有挑战性的任务。无论玩家是喜爱驾驶，还是想要创造新的路线，甚至只是想要看风景，都可以自行选择。

在《模拟火车2014》中，玩家将扮演火车驾驶者展开趣味且有意义的职业生涯，享受逼真的驾驶体验，可以在长达200 公里路线上享受高速行驶乐趣。玩家可以在游戏中探索各式各样的列车，并且驾驶它们来体验世界上的经典路线，包括2014 版本中最新的从汉堡到汉诺威的新路线。

另外，玩家可以透过Steam Workshop 分享个人所打造的列车路线给其ta玩家，或者下载其ta玩家的成果来体验。
