Neon Genesis Evangelion 新世紀福音戰士

Introduction
Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン), one of the most popular mecha anime series, requires no additional introducti** from me. I believe we are all quite familar with them. In fact, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley both have made numerous appearance in various I社 games, we love them!
This time the I社 modding community finally gets the perfect opportunity to introduce the mecha from the anime series. The PSP poser is a jem! I know how strongly fans feel about ANYTHING related to EVA, that is why I took extra time and effort to make the models and textures "looked right".
As for the source materials, the original models are from GMOD. However, I don't think the uploader was the original creator either. The texture references were wrong. (the 0 prototype was RED!!?) No Eva Fans would never make that mistake.

Finding the right bones
Initially I rigged the models using the squid m**ter's bones. It was quite alright, the squid m**ter's bone gave the EVAs a hunched, scary stance. However, its movements are quite limited, and the head wouldn't follow/avoid the camera (we do not have IK control on the head, so the next best thing is to enable head movement by camera.)
So I re-rigged the models onto Masaya's bones. Masaya's bone is, what should I say? whimpy? I made some necessary adjustments to the models so it would endow the models with the trademark Eva mecha look, slightly hunched with a broad shoulder, skinny with long arms and legs.
Skinning
I am just an amateur and there are till many things that I don't understand. I just started learning skinning techniques however the shoulder blade piece requires some more advanced skill to manipulate. it should only rotates on X and Y axis with the upper arm bone, not on the Z axis. I still don't know how to do that, so the shoulder blade piece looks a bit awkward in animation. The other is the fingers. the originals from GMOD export had no bones, reskin that oversized hand with existing bones is not only difficult, but also would affect Masaya's animation, so I did not rig the fingers.
Materials and textures
It's no secret that importing a generic model into PPD is NOT difficult. However, to make it of "releasable quality", a lot of fine-tuning on the materials and game specific hex codes have to be done.
I also enhanced the materials with 2048X2048 textures, how do I do that to keep each character at 15MB? Well, some of you might noticed that I started using PNG textures in my recent mods. That's right, PPD actually accepts PNG / Transparent PNGs. it was a completely accidental discovery when I was playing with the hex codes. (yes, you can assign PPD to accept transparent PNGs through the mesh hex as well).
Normals Bump Map and Specular Map
After adding the normals bump maps, the specular maps, and a very thin metallic sheen to the materials, the models now look very nice and presentable. For Eva fans, I know you wouldn't expect less. However, I strongly suspect normal bump is broken in PPD. I have seen quite a few models come with the normals bump map, but I have yet to see it work as intended. (all sufaces still look too flat!) If you have a system that shows correct normals bump, please post a screenshot on the discussion forum. .
Size and Scale
As for the scale of the EVAs, well, they were HUGE in the original anime. To be faithful to the original, we would have very few maps that would actually accommodate the EVAs and we won't be able to see the human characters very well. So I made the about 5m tall.

Installation
Warning! This mod is NOT Wizzard compatible! You must install it manually by following these steps:
The Files needed for EACH STEP are provided in the folder named with the particular step.
0. Shutdown your PSP if it is currently running.
1. "Step 1. Copy to PSP data folder"
In the folder extracted, go to the "Step 1. Copy to PSP data folder" and copy all the prpr_bdpq_evangelion_*.pp file to the PSP/data folder. (important! NOT PPD!)
2. "Step 2. EDIT StudioMaleList.lst in PPD data folder folder"
in step 2 folder, you will find an example of the StudioMaleList.lst file. If you have BOTH PPD and PSP, you should go to your PPD data folder and find prpr_20_00.pp. Unpack the prpr_20_00.pp file with PPVerDecrypter.exe and edit the StudioMaleList.lst file
